  • Aired: July 2018 – September 2018

Asobi Asobase, a Slice of Life anime, embraces the comic side of things by following three girls through high school. Honda Hanako, a dimwitted character in our story, Olivia, a new transfer student who appears to be from another country, and Kasumi, a bad English speaker but a big fan of BL, are the three main characters. The three play a wonderfully boisterous game in class while engaging in classroom shenanigans, and a peculiar bond develops between them. In order to provide themselves a free environment to engage in their shenanigans unrestrictedly as they built their workshop of fun, they ultimately decided to found the “Pastime Club.”

Akebi’s Sailor Uniform and Asobi Asobase demonstrate that friendships may take many different shapes. That having fun with someone is more important than having similar interests or pastimes. Asobi Asobase plays into this incredibly well from the beginning, instead of starting sluggish like most Slice of Life anime. Which gives a lot of fun to the everyday scenario by adding comedy to the mundaneness of school life. Asobi Asobase’s artwork cleverly hides the humorous obscenity that the three ladies experience in the series by depicting the idyllic innocence of high school life.
