We Forced a Bot to Write Light Novel Titles

At Honey’s Anime, we constantly strive to present entertaining and captivating anime, manga, and light novels. We’ve noticed, along with many other fans, that a lot of contemporary anime or manga, typically the ones that begin as light novels, tend to have, well, rather lengthy titles.

You’ve seen shows like My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected or isekai titles like Banished From The Hero’s Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside, so you know what we’re talking about. I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, But Mistook for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet is literally the entire plot mentioned in the title, so let’s not even begin there!

Are these lengthy titles intended to capture readers’ attention? to irritate visual artists? To force reviewers like us to double-check the title’s exclamation point count?

We at Honey’s decided to relieve our light novel-writing buddies of the stress of coming up with such detailed titles. We forced-fed an innocent bot 147 light book titles using alien technology (also known as the open-source GPT-2 project), from which we chose ten that are almost certainly going to be great hits. A quickly created clipart cover is also included for each of these hypothetical works.

Of course, we have no idea what the novels are about, but that won’t stop us! Join us today on Honey’s Anime as we, er, review? ten totally fake light novel titles created by a computer programme!

 10. Dispossessed Simpleton – Silly Mouse Don’t Cook the Inedible Stew!

Dispossessed Simpleton – Silly Mouse Don’t Cook the Inedible Stew!

Okay, this is starting to have the feel of an oddball comedy. Think Ratatouille from Disney Pixar combined with Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue (My Roommate is a Cat). A well-intentioned mouse makes horrible, completely unpalatable food concoctions for its hikikomori owner that may actually have a negative impact on HP status.

There are many issues with this assumption. Can mice prepare food without having thumbs? Wasn’t that Ratatouille’s entire purpose? Is the mouse producing portions that are human- or mouse-sized? We have inquiries.

 9. Worst Cop Turned Samurai’s Epic Folly

Worst Cop Turned Samurai’s Epic Folly

This one sounds like a riot, to be honest. Does it involve time travel? Did a contemporary Tokyo Metropolitan police officer travel back in time to the era of Edo? Or did a policeman in contemporary Japan follow the path of the sword? In any case, the action-comedy overtones remind us of One Punch Man with ludicrously over-the-top samurai shenanigans.

After defending Tokyo from time-traveling samurai adversaries, our protagonist will ultimately receive criticism from his superiors, who are unaware of his valiant skill with a blade. The journey of the worst cop who became a samurai was a lonely one.

 8. Winning the Devil Bridal Party is a Lot Like Procrastinating

Winning the Devil Bridal Party is a Lot Like Procrastinating

Look, even our AI was able to create some content that is blatantly ecchi for our readers. What a smart robot. We’ll see to it that it receives a particularly large portion of, er, whatever it is that text-generating robots like? It’s Similar to Winning the Devil’s Bridal Party. Procrastination is unquestionably an ecchi harem comedy, featuring most likely an unfortunate young man who mistakenly snatches a bouquet of prickly roses at the wedding of the King of Hell and ends up obtaining the hand in marriage of Satan’s daughter.

Naturally, in more strange settings that always go wrong for him, our protagonist delays picking a wedding date since he doesn’t want to get married to the future Queen of Hell. We’re going to include a human love interest for fun (maybe a classmate crush) to create a love triangle and cause our unfortunate MC even more romantic difficulties.

 7. Sorry, It’s Time to Boot You to Rinkai Bro

Sorry, It’s Time to Boot You to Rinkai Bro

Did you know that the twelve-kilometer-long Rinkai Line runs from the heart of Tokyo to the man-made islands of Aomi and Odaiba? Ten kilometres of it are underground, and 200,000 people use it daily. Although we only read thus much of the Wikipedia page, there were definitely other fascinating details.

Where were we, then? Right. I apologise, but it’s time to send you to Rinkai Bro. A coming-of-age high school story set in a post-apocalyptic world about criminal boys who spend their days lounging at Tokyo’s subway stations. This series will produce several hotly debated BL ships once the manga adaptation is released, and it will also suddenly increase the amount of people using the Rinkai Line.

 6. You Stop Listening, Class Monitor? What the Hell is Your Weapon?

You Stop Listening, Class Monitor? What the Hell is Your Weapon?

We’re pretty sure our bot was suffering from horrific memories to its own high school days when it named this one, an edgier, more aggressive take on Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (Classroom of the Elite). Imagine a science fiction narrative that takes place in a school where minor disputes are settled by sword duels. We’re picturing The Asterisk War’s Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, but with even more school-life clichés to counteract the action.

Our typically uninteresting protagonist will have at least three different love interests, along with an exuberant but foolish best friend and a strict instructor who gets pretty handsy when she drinks. Really, these books seem to be writing themselves at this point.

 5. To Whom It May Concern, Town Bosses Cannot Play RPGs

To Whom It May Concern, Town Bosses Cannot Play RPGs

We really needed one or two good isekai on this list, didn’t we? We’re unsure if “town boss” refers to a local official (like a mayor) or if the bot intended for them to be dungeon bosses in the traditional sense. Combining the two, let’s say this dungeon-crawling isekai follows an unprepared mayor who was grudgingly recruited to lead the boss mob defending his town.

Our unfortunate mayor has to reconcile the demands of his town’s adventurers guild—which is continually getting into mischief and damaging the town’s walls—against heaps of paperwork, much to the chagrin of his lovely but conceited receptionist. When you don’t grasp RPG mechanics, managing a town might be challenging!

4. Thirteen Princesses Must Unite for Marriage to Conquer Three Magical Weaponry

Thirteen Princesses Must Unite for Marriage to Conquer Three Magical Weaponry

Allow us to explain. Oh, and the hypnotic colour scheme of No Game No Life. A shoujo-yuri-sci-fi Sailor Moon updated with a sprinkle of Cowboy Bebop. Perfect! We now have a tale about three universe-destroying sentient weapons that are coming to destroy their homeworlds and three heroic interplanetary princesses who unite in a polyamorous partnership to stop them.

With some ecchi fan-service illustrations and a collectible poster featuring all thirteen girls in their bathing suits for…reasons, ThirPrinThree (as it’s sure to be remembered by fans as) will convey a surprisingly beautiful story about royal responsibilities and friendships. We’re confident it will be a big hit.

 3. What is Momodou? No, I’m Serious! Can You Help Me On His Quest for Enlightenment?

What is Momodou? No, I’m Serious! Can You Help Me On His Quest for Enlightenment?

While we don’t know what Momodou is, we anticipate it to be a humorous romantic comedy about school life with philosophical overtones similar to My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected. Unless finally being able to afford one of those incredibly pricey Hatsune Miku figures counts as gaining enlightenment, we’re not sure whether we’re qualified to discuss questions of enlightenment.

Whatever the case, we see Momodou (our main character) setting out on a “summer of youth” trip with his childhood pals to learn what love really means at the critical juncture of puberty. Ah, the coveted Dengeki Novel Prize—it will be ours very soon!

 2. Dragon Anthology: Last Will Where My Sisters Are Stunningly Outnumbered!

Dragon Anthology: Last Will Where My Sisters Are Stunningly Outnumbered!

We interpret Dragon Anthology, another shamelessly ecchi title generated by our remarkably knowledgeable AI, as a siscon harem comedy in which a worn-out dragon-turned-prince attempts to defend his gorgeous sisters from knights desiring their hand in marriage! Yes, brotherly support is crucial, but our protagonist will eventually need to learn about boundaries.

The dragon prince will undoubtedly attract suitors who are all vying for his throne and/or a chance to be closer to his cute flock of young sisters since, of course, there must be a counterbalance in this story. In this outrageous light book series about marriage, family, and dragon powers, everything goes!

 1. The Devil is Dead, Long Live the Devil!

The Devil is Dead, Long Live the Devil!

In the past, the town crier would proclaim, “The King is Dead, Long Live the King!” whenever the reigning king passed away in Britain or other European monarchy. Therefore, the Crown Prince of Hell, a lazy devil who believed he had years of idleness ahead of him…and now finds himself as the genuine master of hell, is the main character of this light novel series.

Our newly-crowned devil does the unthinkable and hires a down-on-her-luck angel who was recently expelled from Heaven… and despite their opposing ideological positions, the pair form an unexpected partnership to dig Hell out of the pile of debt and management issues! Our newly-crowned devil is completely unprepared for the job of running Hell itself!

We’ll see you at the anime premiere celebration; this tale is sure to be a hit!

Final Thoughts

So maybe there’s more to writing light novels than just coming up with a catchy title. But what use does technology serve if not to make us laugh by coming up with more weird (but strangely alluring) light book titles?

Would you ever consider reading any of these? Are you interested in learning how to create a unique and memorable light novel title? Please join the conversation in the comments section below, and as always, thanks for reading.
